Welcome to the Den - a space to relax and explore creative writing through mindfulness and arts based practices. With a background in holistic medicine I use tools such as yoga, qigong and meditation to aid the writing process and unlock the imagination. 

 

Originally trained as a fine artist, I use a wide range of approaches and techniques to facilitate word-making and the generation of novel ideas. As a published poet and song writer I am also able draw from my experience as a maker and performer of words. I believe that we all have the ability to write in a way that enriches our experience of the world as well as the lives of those around us. A typical session lasts for 1hr 15mins and may include:

  • Gentle yoga/qigong stretches and sequences

  • Guided meditation/mindfulness exercises

  • Poetry readings to inspire and guide

  • Word-making using found objects & art materials

  • Writing exercises and the use of creative prompts

  • Tea/coffee & cake

Some clients like to have a purely restorative session. This involves just the yoga/mindfulness practices followed by specially selected poems which are read out during the relaxation phase when the mind and senses are more open and receptive. Fees can also be used for written feedback/ editing on up to 5 poems.
